There are other workshops in the Eastern High Sierra, led by excellent landscape photographers. In those workshops there is one instructor for 15 to 17 students. In our Mammoth Lakes workshop, the student:teacher ration will not go above 6:1. You can expect a lot of one-on-one time with your instructor. What's even better, each day of the workshop, you will go out into the field with a different instructor. You will learn different techniques and methods from each instructor.

We have Four workshop packages:

Tuition Only - $700
Tuition and meals - $900

Tuition, meals and a private room - $1300

Tuition and meals and share a room with another participant - $1100                                 Go to the Registration Page

If you choose the tuition and meals package, you are on your own for lodging. About the only place that you will find that's cheaper than the deal we have worked with the Mammoth Mountain Inn is to camp or stay in a hostel or a guest house. Staying at the Mammoth Mountain Inn will really simplify your workshop day as you will have to get up even earlier and make your way up the mountain to join your group. We will not have time to come by where you are staying and pick you up.

After you arrive in Mammoth Lakes, you will check in for the workshop at our class room / banquet room at the Mammoth Mountain Inn on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 4 to 6:00PM. We will have dinner together and then get down to business. We will get up early the next morning to catch that alpenglow on the Sierra peaks.

We will visit this same spot for a sunrise. Will we be able to capture a purple sunrise like this (shown above) ?

Maybe we'll get lucky.

After the sunrise shoot, we'll eat a box breakfast with hot coffee and tea then head for the next site. After a box lunch in the field, we'll head back to the hotel and have a classroom session. Here is where our instructors will share with you the secrets of how they post-process their images. After a short break, we will head out for a sunset shoot, most likely at Mono Lake. Jeff Sullivan, always ready to please, has arranged for the full moon to come over the eastern horizon at sundown on Friday and Saturday. We will be in a place that Jeff knows about that will give us all a great photo opportunity.

One day, your instructor will lead you north to the ghost town of Bodie. Here, he will show you how to get some really dramatic shots of the best preserved ghost town in the USA, that is if the ghosts are willing. Some of the buildings will be open and we can shoot inside. On the day trip to Bodie we will not have an afternoon classroom session but our instructor will have a laptop with him and after we eat our box lunches, he will attempt to give some one-on-one critique of your morning photos. Late in the afternoon, we will leave Bodie and head south 10 miles to Mono Lake where we will join the others to see and capture Jeff's full moon rising.

We have a list of some really great photo opportunities for you to visit with our instructors. We will keep things flexible and try to fit in your wishes. We can take an all-day trip to the Devil's Postpile National Monument. There are many interesting things to photograph here including the most beautiful waterfall in the Sierras outside of Yosemite. We will have scouted sites that may include the Virginia Lakes, Lundy Canyon, Lee Vining Canyon, McGee Canyon, Bishop Canyon and many others. Jeff even knows a spot where we might find some fields of wild iris in bloom.

If you are staying in the Mammoth Mountain Inn, check out will be Sunday morning by 11:00 AM. Breakfast Sunday morning is not included but you can find lots of places to eat breakfast in town.

If you want more from our instructors, we are offering an optional day of field shooting with two of our instructors, Jeff Sullivan and Bill Wight. You can join Jeff if you are heading north toward San Francisco and follow him into Yosemite (road conditions permitting) or the Bridgeport and Twin Lakes area. If you are heading south you can follow Bill to Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills.
